WIP | Community Center
The proposed timber addition introduces a sustainable concept that empowers long time residences to stay in the intensely gentrified neighborhood of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, located walking distance from the Ferry Stop.
The Case Study turns an existing NYC Housing Development and its vast parking lot into a new destination by introducing community facilities that support the existing multi generational housing complex. A new kindergarten, community kitchen and health center are among the proposed program, elevated over the existing three story residential development. By relocating the parking underground an increase of parking capacity can be achieved. The now vacant lot is turned into a landscaped park for outdoor activities. Re-routing the parking access away from the new park and turning the now vehicular streets into bike lanes and pedestrian paths the neighborhood becomes safer and more accessible, ideal for locals and visitors to gather.
